Course Project Update - Green Renovation Process - September 20, 2018

Keith Foster's Master Plan includes slight alterations on ten greens to increase hole locations and playability.  The plan for #2 and #4 greens is a bit more in-depth.  The greens are being expanded and recontoured, the process is outlined below.

Keith Foster Master Plan drawings of green expansion areas for holes #2 and #4.  The areas in green are expansions, the lines in red indicate new contours.

The first step is locating the liner edge of the green. LaBar can then begin to core out the areas to be expanded.  Once the proper depth has been reached, the area is backfilled temporarily so the contour adjustments can be made.  GreenScan3D equipment is used to GPS/laser scan the new surface to record the new contour and expanded areas.

The temporary backfill is removed and then drainage is installed.  The base layer under the drainage pipe is filled with a layer of gravel.  Tracking wire is laid alongside the pipe.

Green liner is added to a depth of about 15 inches.

A four-inch layer of gravel is installed over the drainage pipe.

Greens mix is added on top of the gravel layer.  The layer is measured using the GreenScan3D equipment to ensure the correct contours have been made.  The next step in the process will be finishing off the 40" intermediate rough around the green.  After that is complete, the intermediate sand mixture is added, measured and leveled again using the GreenScan3D.

Once the green is complete, bunkers will be shaped.
