Course Project Update - Bunker Renovation Process - October 11, 2018

The weather has not been ideal over the last two weeks.  We continue to adjust the work schedule taking advantage of the drier areas on the golf course which allows us to keep the project moving to completion this fall.

Green regrassing is complete, so major construction now transitions to bunker renovation.  All of the bunkers on the golf course will be altered.  The bunkers will have a different look with a more organic edge.  Fabric liner will be replaced with the Better Billy Bunker system.

The above photo shows the process of shaping the new bunkers on Hole #11.  LaBar removes the old bunker sand, liner and gravel and hauls the debris away.  Keith Foster paints the bunker indicating any adjustments to shape, size and slope. LaBar uses machinery and hand work to shape the interior and edges of the bunker.
Once the initial shaping is complete, Keith Foster paints the edge of the bunker and makes any needed adjustments to the interior slope of the bunker. Once the bunker is approved, we determine the amount of drainage to be installed.
LaBar digs the trenches for the drainage pipe and fills the bottom with gravel.  Pipe is installed and leveled to ensure proper flow of water out of the bunker.  Location tracking wire is attached to the drainage pipe.
The drainage lines are buried in gravel, then the entire bunker is filled with a gravel base.
Notice the edge of the new bunker.  Using Perry Maxwell's original design technique, Keith Foster creates a more organic feel to the bunkers throughout the golf course.  Native grass will accent some edges.
Hole #14 with sodded edges, awaiting the final steps of the bunker transformation.  Subsequent posts will cover the installation of the Better Billy Bunker system and the addition of fresh bunker sand.
